Ag Issues Advisory Committee

Potomac River Basin Drinking Water Source Protection Partnership

In early 2010 the Ag Issues workgroup formed an Advisory Committee of agriculture and animal experts to help the group in its efforts to reach out to the Potomac River basin’s agricultural community. The Advisory Committee has assisted the workgroup in developing the Partnership’s message on the link between drinking water, cattle, and Cryptosporidium. Current Advisory Committee members are:

  • Dr. Rob Atwill – University of California Davis Professor of Environmental Animal Health and Medical Ecology School of Veterinary Medicine whose research and extension program has focused on key processes governing the fate, transport and dissemination of zoonotic diseases and their role in microbial water quality and food safety
  • Ed Blouin – Agricultural Program Manager, Watershed Agricultural & Forestry Program New York City DEP
  • Dr. John Currin – Associate Clinical Instructor, the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, background in cattle and cattle operations
  • Tolessa Deksissa, Ph.D. – Associate Director, Water Resources Research Institute (WRRI), University of the District of Columbia
  • Elmer Dengler – Maryland NRCS State Grazing Specialist
  • Sarah K. Dinh, Ph.D. – Penn State Cooperative Extension, Extension Educator, Dairy/Environment
  • Dwight Dotterer – MD Department of Agriculture Resource Conservation, Patuxent Area Coordinator
  • Dr. Ronald Fayer – USDA-ARS Beltsville Agricultural Research Center with a background in Crypto
  • Dr. Guy Hohenhaus – MD Department of Agriculture, State Veterinarian
  • John Rhoderick – Administrator for Operations for the MD Department of Agriculture’s Office of Resource Conservation
  • Dr. Scott Updike – University of Maryland, Dept. of Animal and Avian Sciences, Extension Beef Specialist
